5 Eyewear pieces for Everyday wear

Editor’s Pick: 5 Eyewear Reviews

I used to wear contacts religiously whenever I went out. I just couldn’t stand how I looked in glasses. Now, I’m mixing and matching fits and frames every day. My obsession has led me to dig deeper and deeper into the world of eyewear. I went into preparing for this article with my own abundance of curiosity, bombarding an eyewear designer friend with endless questions, even on her days off. You can trust this one is thoroughly researched.

Before we dive into the detailed reviews of the five frames I’ve carefully selected, let’s first break down the structure of a pair of glasses, which may be unfamiliar to some. (Thanks you to my eyewear expert friend M!)

Have you ever taken a close look inside the temples of your glasses?

If you’ve carefully examined them, you might have noticed numbers like 50□18 140.

These numbers mean the following: a lens width of 50mm, a bridge width (the distance between lenses) of 18mm, and a temple length (from hinge to tip) of 140mm. The small rectangle in the middle indicates the "boxing system," a standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). If you’ve found a pair of glasses that you like and fits you well, you can use these measurements as a reference for future pairs. Now that you know the basic structure of glasses, we can dive into the world of eyewear.

MIU MIU Regard Logo Havana Frame Glasses

First up, we have the charming MIU MIU Regard Logo Havana Frame glasses, where the oval rim line boldly emphasizes your eyes.

While there’s always classic black, the version that truly captured this editor’s heart is the iconic leopard print, officially called “Honey Tortoiseshell.” Imagine yourself wearing these frames as the seasons turn colder: a long coat that’s just shy of dragging on the ground, a simple cotton tote with your favorite book tucked inside, the Regard frames topping it all off.

    • Rims: Oval-shaped acetate horn-rimmed frame
    • Lenses: Blue light blocking, 100% UV absorption
    • Logo: Metal logo detail on the hinges, logo along the curve of the left lens
    • Made in: Italy

MYKITA ARLO Double Bridge Glasses

Introducing the ARLO Double Bridge glasses by MYKITA, a brand where each piece is handcrafted by German artisans. You can see how the glasses here resemble sleek aviator sunglasses traditionally worn by pilots.

The glasses don’t open and close as smoothly as some might desire, but they have a spring-like elasticity that feels nearly unbreakable. Included with the glasses is a large-sized cleaning cloth made from recycled PET, measuring a substantial 28.3cm across. To give a sense of scale, that’s about the height of an A4 sheet of paper.

    • Rims: Hexagonal-shaped metal frames combining straight and curved lines
    • Bridge: Double-bridge design reminiscent of aviator glasses
    • Nose pads: Semi-transparent silicone pads
    • Nose arms: S-shaped nose arms that wrap around the nose pads
    • Temples & tips: Stainless steel temples encased in acetate
    • Made in: Berlin (Handcrafted)

CHANEL Logo Temple Square Glasses

While your neighbor’s kid might not be familiar with this year’s LVMH Prize winner, they undoubtedly know the allure of CHANEL. It’s a name that transcends generations, eliciting an instant recognition: “Oh, that’s CHANEL!” The brand’s iconic emblem graces the design with an understated elegance, positioned perfectly to captivate without overwhelming.

Be sure not to overlook the striking black cat-eye frames. They’re a timeless choice sure to resonate with a diverse audience, steering clear of any divisive opinions. This piece effortlessly combines sophistication with accessibility, embodying the essence of CHANEL.

    • Rims: Inverted trapezoid-shaped cat-eye black horn frames
    • Lenses: Demo lenses, require replacement for actual wear
    • Logo: Detailed metal logo at the start of the temples, black logo printed at the lower left corner of the lens
    • Made in: Italy

CELINE LOGO TEMPLE SUNGLASSES

Introducing CELINE’s sunglasses, guaranteed to leave a structured and weighty first impression. My deep exploration for this piece led me to realize that among the countless eyewear brands out there, CELINE eyewear consistently boasts some of the highest quality.

If you’re worried that the hexagonal lenses might come off as overwhelming, you may need to think again. The perfectly balanced thickness of the rim complements the lenses beautifully, while the slightly thicker end pieces and bridge add a sense of heft to these sunglasses. The aforementioned weighty first impression comes from the well-balanced end pieces that stabilize the overall look.

    • Rim: Metal frame in a hexagonal-leaning-towards-oval shape
    • Nose Pads: Metal pads featuring CELINE's embossed logo with an added silicone pad for comfort
    • End Pieces: Bold and structurally designed to convey a sense of weight
    • Temple & Tips: Metal temples paired with black acetate tips
    • Logo: Metallic embossed logo at the starting point of the temple
    • Made in: Italy

Chrome Hearts DEEP 1 Rimless Square Sunglasses

As we know, the star always makes a grand entrance at the end. I always sensed something through their jewelry, but the eyewear takes the sensation to another level. Put simply, Chrome Hearts is for eyewear connoisseurs.

The lenses and nose pads are connected by hexagonal bolts, and even those tiny bolts are engraved with subtle Chrome Hearts logos. Included Along with demo lenses that indicate the size of the lenses, they’ve thoughtfully included additional bolts and nuts used in the eyewear’s construction. Moreover, the hinges are remarkably flexible, allowing the temples to open wide. This means that wearers can adjust the glasses to fit their face width perfectly. I sincerely recommend Chrome Hearts to anyone who has struggled to find the right glasses online due to needing a wider fit.

    • Rim: Elongated, rimless design
    • Lenses: Black gradient lenses, dark at the top and gradually lightening towards the bottom, featuring ZEISS lenses
    • Bridge: Unique structure connecting the lenses and nose pads with hexagonal bolts
