Gimaguas
March 17, 2025
Take a second and think about all the clothes you ever wanted to buy.
Sometimes with designer brands, it’s really the overall mood and feeling the brand gives off that makes me want to wear their clothes. Gimaguas is a brand that instantly evokes the image of a girl living her best summer days, and it’s my latest obsession.
Even though I've lived through countless summers, every single one comes with a fresh belief, an idea that this summer will somehow be different. There’s always this mysterious anticipation, a hunch that a life-changing moment might suddenly appear. Gimaguas clothing captures that feeling exactly. One glance at their Instagram and you’re almost ready to start packing your bags and heading to a beach.

Gimaguas is all about making us feel the nostalgia of vacation all year round. Casual resort selfies, belongings casually thrown into a vinyl bag, cozy drives on warm summer nights, or holding hands on the beach with someone you love. Moments like these are exactly what their pieces capture. That easy-going-but-still-luxurious vacation feel.

Someone once told me “We live off our vacation memories.”, and I remember strongly relating to that. For those of us stuck in a day-to-day routine, memories we can escape into are more important than we realize. Maybe that’s why it’s even harder not to fall in love with this brand that embodies Spain’s unforgettable hot summers.
How a Girl Spends Her Hot Summer
Gimaguas gets its name from the Cuban word "Jimaguas," meaning twins. True to their name, the brand was founded in Spain in 2018 by twin sisters Claudia Durany and Sayana Durany.

The Durany sisters are famous for drawing inspiration from their global travels, and their Instagrams are filled with travel photos that make the brand’s ‘I’m on vacation right now’ style seem even more natural. They collaborate with artisans from places like Madagascar, Mexico, Jaipur in India, and Barcelona, carefully learning traditional crafting techniques and making handmade pieces.
Gimaguas intentionally distances itself from mass-produced fast fashion, instead emphasizing handmade goods and values like adventurousness and happiness to really reflect the twins’ values and laid-back lifestyle.
Dressing Like the Gimaguas Girls
If you truly want to serve a Gimaguas look, take notes from the Durany twins themselves. For anyone into subtle but eye-catching style, you can trust that they know what they’re doing.

Durany sisters’ styling tips:
1. Go for an all-white look but with varied textures. Grab Gimaguas' signature studded bag and your casual look is already complete.
2. For a cute use of color, layer whites with varying shades of pink, or combine subtle grays with mustard. See how they mix neutrals with pastel tones to create looks that are vibrant without being overwhelming.

The distinct character of Gimaguas items, be it knitwear, skirts, or handmade necklaces, is what makes each piece uniquely appealing.

As someone notoriously prone to desire, it would be unforgivable not to mention the Gimaguas pieces I’m eyeing this season.
Alexia Mini Dress ⓒgimaguas.com
This dress is perfectly versatile, featuring a longer silhouette with playful skirt detailing. Ideal for layering with denim or short pants, it's just right for those seeking something easy and chic. The warm brown shade fits seamlessly with various looks, so it’s both casual and stylish.
Franca Bag ⓒgimaguas.com
I’m consistently drawn to this bag. It’s just a standout accessory for any minimal outfit. Perfect for those who love designer bags at a reasonable price range. Looking at how many times I’ve searched this bag, I’m just gonna go buy it right now.
Corinne Jacket ⓒgimaguas.com
The moment I saw this denim jacket, it instantly topped my must-have list. With adjustable snaps at the waist, chic pleated details, and an effortless fit, it's exactly what I've been searching for. Throwing it on casually feels like the perfect way to welcome spring.
Bailarina Studs ⓒgimaguas.com
The color alone on these shoes is pure joy. Reminiscent of fresh melon and instantly refreshing to look at. I'd pair them with long, relaxed trousers for a chic but casual statement.
As I write this, Utada Hikaru’s song "Somewhere Near Marseilles" has been on endless repeat.
Listening to it late at night feels like stepping into another world. The lyrics charmingly describe planning a summer escape and casually booking an ocean-view room.
I'm in London, you're in Paris. Shall we try to plan a rendezvous vacay? Somewhere near Marseilles, yeah, yeah. One room with ocean view. Ocean view reservation. One room with ocean view. Reservation reservation. (I put the actual lyrics here because they’re so cute.)
Coincidentally, I first discovered this song in a hotel bar during a trip. Even now whenever I hear it, I'm transported back to the specific air, warmth, and glow of that unfamiliar city. Like certain scents, music has a similar hidden power to bring back the past.

One of these days I’ll book my own ocean-view room. Just like her, I'll pack my Gimaguas studded bag, cozy hoodie, and swimsuit, fully ready for whatever unforgettable moments await.
