What We Actually Want to Buy This Summer

Is it just me who finds browsing jente this fun? 🛒❤️🔥

EDITOR’s SUMMER PICK!

Half of shopping is just looking. With jente I open the app meaning to spend five minutes and surface an hour later, cart well past budget, having bought nothing. A few things survive every round of that, refusing to leave the tab no matter how many times I close it. This is a list of those.

My closet is mostly black, with the occasional color thrown in to reset things. The list below is exactly that. Fully self-indulgent, slightly over budget. ☀️

Summer Tops, All Black (Naturally) 🖤

Heat makes you reach for one tee, one shirt, and stop thinking. The trick is picking the one that still does something. A few black tops I've been circling, for anyone who wants to stay cool without going plain.

OUR LEGACY Black Sleeveless Top

Does the work of a full layered look on its own. The lace trim is enough to warm up an otherwise minimal outfit, which is the entire appeal.

sacai Black Vest

sacai's bomber, minus the sleeves, scaled for summer. Volume kept up top, and the result sits right on the line between outerwear and top. I want to throw it half-zipped over a short skirt and leave.

noir kei ninomiya Gathered Blouse

You can spot a noir kei ninomiya from across a room, and this is why. I like calm colors with one strange detail, and the little bobbled elastic running through this is exactly the kind of strange I mean. (Genuinely debating it as I type. 🥰)

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER Black Tee

A clean graphic tee earns its keep for years. I have a real soft spot for the house under Stefano Gallici, so the "Dream" tee from SS26, lifted from the collection's central theme, is high on the list. The signature strap detail keeps a plain tee from reading plain. (Worth noting now: this house reappears several more times. No apologies.)

A Bag That Does the Talking 👜

Lighter outfits put more on the bag. The same tee, the same dress, reads completely differently depending on what you're carrying. Four I actually want, no styling justification required.

rabanne Silver Shoulder Bag

I own this in raffia and get stopped about it every time I leave the house. After years of reaching for it, the silver version started to look inevitable. It carries a plain day on its own, and it could only be rabanne.

ALAIA Burgundy Shoulder Bag

Saw it on Dua Lipa, haven't unseen it since. I have enough black bags, so burgundy. The mesh keeps it light and it lifts a simple outfit without effort. Doesn't look like something I'd tire of.

SAINT LAURENT Raffia Crochet Crossbody

Raffia that somehow reads polished, the loose handmade texture of crochet meeting Saint Laurent's flatter, cleaner hand. Black, roomy, the kind of summer bag you actually carry into the rest of the year.

BALENCIAGA 24/7 Beige Tote

Logos aren't usually my thing. This is the exception. Fine by a pool, equally fine with a tee and slacks in the city. I carry my whole life on me at all times, so this one has a future.

WILLY CHAVARRIA LECHE Tank Top

Found while hunting for something to pack. Pastel pink with a gothic graphic across it, a combination I had no idea I was after. A good color tank pulls more weight in summer than it should, as I think we all quietly know. 💖

gimaguas Petra Swimsuit

Swimsuits are always wanted and almost never worn, which is exactly why this one caught me. The muted brown works as a swimsuit and as a top, so it earns its place past the trip too, under denim or a long skirt.

CHIMI Black Sunglasses

No summer cart is complete without a pair. Minimal, black, unbothered by whatever else you put on. First thing into any bag I pack. (More on CHIMI elsewhere, if you missed it.)

Jean Paul Gaultier Multicolor Beachwear

A trompe l'oeil print that makes you look twice. I'd been after beachwear with an idea behind it, and the light nylon, thrown over a bikini, would read better than most things people actually plan.

Bottoms That Carry the Look

The bottoms worth talking about this summer aren't the basics. They're the ones with an opinion about fabric or shape. When a summer outfit threatens to go flat, this is the half to fix first. Lace and sheer for lightness, denim with real drape, a relaxed line that makes a dull top suddenly worth a second look.

Rick Owens DRKSHDW White Denim Trousers

The kind of white trousers a CORTIS member would wear. The bootcut lengthens the leg, the hem pools at the ankle, and the scattered distressing keeps clean white from getting boring. A white tee and these is a finished outfit. Already in the cart.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER GOELE Back-Draping Denim Skirt

Reads elegant before it reads denim. The draping at the back builds volume as you move, which sounds like nothing until you watch it happen. A long skirt for plain summer tops. Chunky black heeled sneakers underneath.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER Beige Skirt

The romantic side of the house, doing what it does best. Sheer fabric catching the light into a weightless line, embroidery with the kind of craft that gives it a presence other brands can't quite copy. I keep picturing it with heavy boots, runway-style. Someone talk me into it.

Chloé Floral Skirt

Stuck with me from the first runway pass. Rose print, draping, an asymmetric hem, none of the usual floral-skirt obviousness. Pure Chloé SS26, feminine and romantic without losing the edge. A specific-occasion skirt, stilettos under it, a plain tee on top to cut the sweetness.

The Last Detail

The lighter the outfit, the more the accessories matter, and silver has a coolness in summer that nothing else hits the same way.

GALLERY DEPT. Painted Stud Belt

Any other season I'd take the black one. Summer wants the color. The vintage studs and the loud palette are less of a risk than they sound, and they give a light outfit something to hold onto.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER Black Card Wallet

Nothing leaves the house with me more reliably than my wallet, which feels like reason enough to make it something I love. This one turned up mid-dig on jente. Silver detail so it isn't flat, sized for a few cards, the business cards that matter, and the loyalty stamps from the café I'm always at, all zipped away. The little teardrop silver pull is the part that makes it.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER Silver Necklace

The one silver piece a summer needs. Thin link chain, 90cm, long enough to land on its own without anything layered over it. Solid silver, made in Italy, closer to an object than an accessory once you look properly. (The last of the Ann Demeulemeester, I promise.)

BALENCIAGA Multicolor Keyring

More keyrings, always. I don't know why this never stops being true with age. Summer makes me want something a little kitsch hanging off a bag, and the ice cream print is genuinely cooling to look at.

Stories: Editor’s Summer PICK!

So that's the wishlist, assembled with great enthusiasm and zero restraint. Browsing jente always swallows more time than I plan to give it, and putting this together was, embarrassingly, a real way to spend an evening. Conclusion reached: I need to earn more. 💸

Wishing everyone a summer with great outfits and even better reasons to wear them. 💘
